Project overview
Bullo Station is a 400,000-acre working cattle station and outback resort in the northwest corner of Australia’s Northern Territory. Located near the Western Australian border in the Victoria River District and the edge of the East Kimberley region, about 800 kilometres southwest of Darwin.
Its remote location presents logistical challenges for the operators. Floods and extreme weather during the wet season (October – March) ensure road access remains closed for 6 months of the year. During this period, the property relies strictly on air or helicopter transport.
Fuel upgrades were needed to ensure, during this period of isolation, daily operations reliant on fuel continued as normal.
This project build involved 3 critical aspects:
- Compliance
- Fuel Storage
- Refuelling
Compliance:
Decommissioning and removal of old single-skinned fuel tanks. Upgrade and installation of double-walled, self-bunded F.E.S. Tanks, all in compliance with all workplace health and safety (WHS) and environmental authority requirements.
Storage:
Enough fuel storage to cover daily operations during wet season (6 months, plus contingency).
Fuel Type – Diesel, ULP, Avgas, Jet A1
Refuelling:
Diesel. Diesel generators, farming equipment and vehicles.
ULP: Farming equipment and vehicles
Avgas: Small general aviation aircraft, spark-ignited, internal combustion piston engines.
Jet A1: Gas-turbine aviation engines, which include turbojets, turbofans, and turboprops, as well as turbine-powered helicopters.
Fuel Focus
- Power and fuel on demand, all year round with no disruption to daily operations.
- Grande 68 diesel supply tank with transfer system to day tank. Generator draws down from day tank for fuel supply. The set-up supplied the cattle station and resort with power on demand.
- Dedicated refuelling area consisting of concrete hardstanding and crash barriers
- Grande 68 Diesel storage and dispensing station with pumps, meters and high-mast hose supports. Run off power on demand (generator power).
- Bloc 4500 ULP storage and dispensing station with pumps, meters and high-mast hose supports. Run off power on demand (generator power).
- Bloc 10000 AVGAS refuelling station on a solar power set-up. Pumps, meters and high-mast hose supports.
- Bloc 6000 JET-A1 refuelling station on a solar power set-up. Pumps, meters and high-mast hose supports.
